Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities Objectives
The Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities has six Strategic Objectives that guide its program operations and continuous improvement.

The Board has made significant strides in meeting these goals.

We have eliminated waiting lists in Adult Services, Respite Care, Transportation, Seniors’ Program, and Service and Support Administration (Case Management).

We have increased the number of individuals on Medicaid waivers from 35 in 2001, to 210 in 2007, using local dollars to leverage federal dollars to bring new services to individuals and families. That number increased to 421 as of September 2009.

The Board has upgraded all of its buildings by replacing roofs at Meshel, LKS, Board office and Javit Court; new parking lots at Meshel, Javit Court and LKS and added an enclosed bus compound for better vehicle security..

All buildings have technology connectivity and all employees have computer access for efficient work performance (compared to only 20 in 2001).

Aging buses are being replaced steadily to assure safety and comfort for riders with disabilities.

There has been a significant increase in staff development including training in computer usage.

The Board received its first accreditation (for two years) in 2002; a re-accreditation for three years in 2004 and completed its third accreditation review in March 2007(for three years.). There is an on-going emphasis on continuous quality improvement by the Administration and Board of Directors.

The Board has placed a great emphasis on public awareness and has received statewide recognition, including media partners, such as The Vindicator, Town Crier and WKBN, in 2006 and 2007 with awards from the Ohio Public Images Network.
